Being a Detroit Police Chaplain, I was called to several suicide scenes. I have prayed with families who lost family members to suicide. Suicide often run in families. I make it a habit to pray for people in dark places.
One of the lessons I have learned from a spiritual standpoint is to be proactive. Spiritual and natural realities work together. Some people approach things from a spiritual point and neglect natural remedies. Apply both spiritual and practical solutions to your approach when praying over someone suffering from suicidal thoughts.
From a natural standpoint (counseling, medicine) it can be difficult to minister to someone in a dark place. In that situation:
Pray light into the darkness
-John 1:4-5, “In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not”
-Command light to shine into the darkness. -Command light to shine into dark places
Our warfare is not with people but unseen forces. One of the unseen spiritual forces is call “rulers of the darkness of this world” see Ephesians 6:10-12.
The Bible says to be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might when dealing with unseen forces of darkness.
-Binding and loosing, Matthew 18:18-19
-Plead the blood of Jesus over the dark places, Revelation 12:11
-Loose angels to minister to a person suffering Suicidal thoughts, Hebrews 1:13-14
– Proverbs 18:21, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”
Join with others who are praying over your city and community declaring the blood of Jesus covers dark places where a spirit of suicide is working.
-Loose the Sword of the Spirit to cut down, render powerless, void, empty, busted and broken any suicidal strategies, Psalms 149:4-9
Thought: most believers don’t know how to work the promises. You must work the word of God like a farmer sowing seed or a plumber fixing a plumbing problem. You don’t ever quit, give up become discouraged. You learn from your mistakes and go back and hit again.

Divides soul and spirit. Sharper than a surgeon’s knife, Hebrews 4:12. It gives life.
Remember, it is God’s will that we prosper in all of the works of our hands, Ephesians 1:3; John 15:8 & Genesis 1:28; Psalms 35:27
Dear Heavenly Father, in the Name of Jesus, I join my faith with those battling spiritual darkness in the form of suicidal thoughts. You said in Matthew 18:18-19 where two or more agreed as touching anything, it shall be granted. Therefore we declare that all chains of darkness, depression and oppression is broken now. We loose your word by speaking and declaring according to the sworn covenant you made with us, that the spirit of darkness is forever broken. We declare that Jesus is anointed to set the captive free (Luke 4:18). We declare we are anointed to be free (2 Corinthians 1:21). Therefore we break and command all suicidal thoughts to leave, to Get Out! (Mark 16:17).
I also pray for them, that they might be filled to overflowing with your sweet Spirit of grace according to Ephesians 3:19; John 8:12.
We command light into dark places!
