When Satan attacked Jesus

Satan tried to kill Jesus when he was a baby, according to Matthew 2:16-18

In the reign of King Herod, when he was looking for the baby Jesus, the scriptures record:

“THEN Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from 2 years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men. Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, in Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.”

Satan tried numerous times to kill Jesus! But there is one thing that Jesus said that probably nobody else could say…

Satan had nothing on/in Jesus

“Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.” John 14:30 (KJV)

Satan was coming to kill Jesus. But Satan had nothing on Jesus that he could use to kill him.

Satan had nothing in Jesus that he could use to throw him in a hole. Jesus had no “handles” or sin in his life that Satan could use to take hold of and throw Jesus into a hole!

The Crucifixion

In John 19:10, when Jesus was delivered to Pontus Pilate to be put to death; Pilate said to Jesus, ‘Don’t you know, I have the power to crucify you or release you’

Jesus told Pilate, ‘You have no power at all against me, except it were given to you from above.’ Those who delivered Jesus to Pontus Pilate had the greater sin. See John 19:11

Sacrifice

Jesus was offered as a sacrifice to pay for the sins of many. Through his cross, he blotted out ordinances that were contrary to us. He spoiled Satan’s henchmen of principalities and powers triumphing over them in his cross, Colossians 2:14-15

Now we can say, ‘Satan has nothing on us or in us because of Jesus’

Peace with God

“And having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight.” Colossians 1:20-22

The next verse says, if you continue in the faith grounded and settled and not moved away from the hope of the gospel (verse 23).

Satan may be the god of this world. But he is not my God.

We are in the world but not of the world. We are kept by truth of the word of God.

Herein is a very powerful principle because the creator said,

“I HAVE given them thy word: and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word us truth.” John 17:14-17

The word “sanctify” means to separate, to make holy for God’s use!

The world system is not our source. Believers have been sent into the world to preach and reveal the realities of the gospel message. The plan of salvation includes nothing lacking, missing, wholeness, healing, and deliverance.

We never really understood the fullness of the blessings we inherited through Jesus Christ!

John 10:10 ‘The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy, but Jesus is come that we might have life and have it more abundantly”

Eternal Life

Think about Eternal Life. The first mention of Life is in Genesis 2:7 when God breathed the breath of Life into Adam and he becomes a living soul…

The next mention of life is in Genesis 2:9, God planted the tree of life so that man could have access to life through fruit!

God is the source of life, and that is found in Genesis 2:10, a river came out of the city of Eden to water the garden of Eden. The river is the physical symbol of Eternal Life. The river is the delivery system. In Revelation 22:1, the river of life came out of the throne of God to water the tree of life, which bore twelve manner of fruits.

We have a connection to the source

Jesus put the river on the inside of you. See John 4:14 wells of living water

See John 7:37-38, rivers of living water

See 1 John 5:11, God has given us eternal life

Life is a present reality. Life makes things grow. Life heals, imparts knowledge, and gives wisdom. The agency through which life is administered is the Holy Spirit, God’s Spirit!

You can say, like Jesus, Satan comes, but he has nothing on me or in me. There are no handles he can use to throw me in a hole!

Grace & peace!
