If you don’t understand sacrifice, should you offer one? Should you be compelled to offer one?

From the beginning to the end, you will always have that tenth percent. Again, God made the system. The tenth started with him and will follow us into eternality. The fruit of the tree of the knowledge of God and evil to the Lamb of God seated in the throne of God, Revelation 22:1

Man was created in the image and likeness of God but not to be a god. Man also was created to a be servant, that is to till the ground, see Genesis 2:5 fulfilled in Revelation 22:3-4,

“And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: and they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.”

Every thought of the imagination of the mind and heart shall be full of the glory of God. This is what Adam originally saw, the glory of God in its fullness, to the point that he didn’t know he was naked. Jesus is come to put the tree of life back into our hands. There is a prayer in Ephesians 3:14-21, that speaks of Jesus dwelling in our hearts by faith that we being rooted and grounded in love may be able to comprehend the breath, length, depth and height- to know love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, “that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.”

Why would God ask Abraham to give his son Isaac as a sacrifice?

Genesis 22:1-2

“And it came to pass after these things; that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am. And he said, Taken now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offers him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.”

Once Abraham reached the site, he positioned his son on the altar to be sacrificed. An angel from heaven called out to him, “lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him”

God said to Abraham, “… now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.” Genesis 22:12

At that moment, Abraham noticed a ram caught in the thicket of a bush by its horns. Abraham sacrificed the ram in the place of Isaac. Abraham called the name of that place, Jehovah-Jireh, which interpreted, God’s provision shall be seen.

In return for Abraham’s obedience in offering up Isaac, the son he loved and prized, God made a sworn oath to Abraham that he would bless him and his seed and all the nations of the earth.

Couple things happened:

  1. God pledges himself to bless Abraham and his seed
  2. God gave seed and the fruit of trees to Adam in Genesis 1:29, “And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall for meat”
  3. God gave Adam “seed and trees bearing fruit as tools to fulfill the original vision. Seed is pro-vision. Seed is for the vision. Trees yielding fruit keeps the vision flowing. Jesus Christ becomes the SEED of Abraham. A “tree” became the tool by which God gives as many as believe on him the gift of eternal life.
  4. Galatians 3:16, Jesus Christ is the seed to whom God was making the sworn oath.
  5. Galatians 3:13-14, “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
  6. Galatians 3:29, “And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
  7. The concept of inheritance: Remember God created everything. He gave Adam dominion over the earth. Everything in the earth was self-sustaining. Adam was a steward in the Garden of Eden. It was given to him as a responsibility to manage. Adam was called into the seventh day creation to enjoy the works of God’s hands.
  8. Abraham’s obedience was credited to him by God as having fulfilled his righteous requirement of obedience.

Abraham’s obedience allowed God to present his plan of redemption. God credited Abraham’s obedience to your account. ‘If ye be Christ, then are you the seed of Abraham and heirs of the promise.’

Abraham payed tithes

Hebrews 7:6-9

“But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises. And without contradiction the less is blessed of the better. And here men that die receives tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth. And as I may so say, Levi also, who receieveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham. For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.”

What does it means that Levi payed tithes in Abraham? God credited Abraham obedience to their credit. Therefore they were entitled to the provisions of the promise.

After Adam’s fall, the human race went through a series of high priests. The high priest represented man before God in the matter of offering a sacrifice of worship. Abraham gave a tithe to Melchisedec who blessed him in return with bread and wine.

Genesis 14:18-20

“And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. And blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him a tithe of all.”

Personal Testimony

I learned the privilege of tithing from the 10 years old. I worked with my father in his shoe repair shop shinning shoes. I started giving a tenth of the money I made from shinning shoes. I know what it is to be consistent giver and to be unfaithful in your sowing of tithes and offering. The reward are numerous. Suffice to say, the blessing of God makes you independent of man.

Grace & peace!
