In Matthew 6, Jesus said the Gentiles are preoccupied with seeking food, water, and clothing.
Jesus’ direction to his disciples is powerful because it points to the Father’s goal, rooted in restoring the blessing of the Garden of Eden, his original design.
In Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 6, the Gentiles represent the nations without covenant with God. The first time I came to understand what Jesus was speaking, it started me on a journey of seeing the world differently and seeing the kingdom as God’s plan for provision and the future.
Jesus starts this conversation by saying, “You can not serve God and money.”
He said,
“If God so clothed the grass of the field, which today is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith.”
Jesus then made reference to food, water, and clothes. He said, “Take no thought for these things,
“For after all these things do the Gentiles seek.”
Jesus said, “Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these other things shall be added unto you.”
There are articles on this platform that deal specifically with God’s righteousness.
The kingdom of God is on a whole other level. The world is in chaos and confusion. The economies of many nations favor the rich and the few chosen.
But God’s kingdom is given to the poor, rich in faith.
“Hearken, my beloved brethren, hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to the that love him?” James 2:5
This promise doesn’t mean anything to those who do not understand nor appreciate “their inheritance in Christ.”
You see, according to James 1:17
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”
There is nothing wrong with Giver or the gift. Both are perfect and good. The problem is with the receiver.
Grace and peace!
