Serpent’s Bite

The Serpent has been around from the beginning. A few things we can learn about him:

The Serpent deceived Eve into eating the forbidden fruit, which was the sacrifice.

God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” She said, “The Serpent deceived me and I did eat.”

She was bitten by the Serpent. Cain, who committed the first murder, was bitten by the Serpent. In John 8:44, Jesus said Satan was a murderer from the beginning.

The Serpent needs your hands to carry out the work. By the time we reach Genesis 6, the whole world has been injected with venom.

According to Revelation 12:9, the Serpent is known as the great dragon, the Devil, and Satan. He deceives the whole world.

Through his influence, he has made the nations intoxicated with his venom, Revelation 17:2

Through the multitudes of his schemes, he has inflicted great hatred upon the people, Revelation 18:3

Serpent’s tools

“… For thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.” Revelation 18:23

The Jonestown massacre happened on November 18, 1978. On that day, 909 members of the Peoples Temple committed suicide by drinking Flavor Aide mixed with cyanide. They did so at the commands of their pastor and leader, the Rev. Jim Jones. How could one man have so much influence? The Serpents bite!

I remember a time in my life when I was snake bitten. I wasn’t bitten by an actual snake. I was deceived into getting into debt. I was deceived into making such bad life choices. I became aware of this through a vision God gave me of being bitten by a snake multiple times. He also showed me the healing process.

The Antidote

After the fall, God made clothes for Adam and Eve. To do that, he had to shed the blood of innocent animals. That was the beginning of God’s redemptive plan.

John the Baptist introduced Jesus: ‘Behold the Lamb of God which takes away the sin of the world.’

Revelation 12, the Serpent is kicked out of heaven and cast down to earth. He comes down in a rage because he know his time is short. He wages war against the saints. The Bible says, they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony (Revelation 12:12).

God chose the image of the Lamb seated on the throne as his last message to the world,

“And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, processing out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.” Revelation 22:1

This should tell you how significant the Lamb is to God!

Why the Lamb?

Why the Lamb in Revelation 5? The focus is on his qualifications. He alone is takes the book out of the hands of God.

All focus in heaven is on a Lamb that has been slain.

All the angels and creation itself worship the Lamb! He redeems us by his blood.
